Today there was another AFS chapter meeting. Beforehand, however, I met up with Marta, and AFSer from Spain, who I started emailing before she came here, and was surprised at the coincidence that when she came here, she would be living in a town about 45 minutes away from where I live.
So we met up at a shopping centre, looked around the shops. My town doesn't really have that much to offer, and on a Sunday afternoon the shops shut early. At Gloria Jean's, we had iced chocolate and then walked to the Community House where the chapter meeting was being held.
At the chapter meeting, four recent returnees talked about their experiences.
One went to Sweden, one to Denmark (they were stepsisters too!), one went to the USA and one went to Brazil for 6 months. It was really really interesting hearing about their exchanges, from homesickness to proms and Sadies (in the USA).
After the four returnees talked, we had a bite to eat and I talked to another girl from my school hoping to go to the USA. She knew where Chile was!!! :D Unlike my sister who thought it was in Africa :-\ And I talked to the girls who went to Sweden and Denmark. They had returned just before Mock Exams, and explained about how friends were and stuff when they came back. From what it sounded like, friends aren't that interested in hearing about your exchange. Luckily the two returnees from Sweden and Denmark were sisters, so that would be good. So far, there is only one male inbound (Costa Rica) and one male hopeful (to Costa Rica!) It seems girls are dominating exchange in my chapter.
Mum and I also looked at the profiles of outbounds who want to come to NZ... So we might be a host family while I'm away! All of the students sounded absolutely amazing, and I think it would be a great oppurtunity to host a student. Hopefully to host one when I come back as well! I'm worried that my Spanish skills might disappear/fade a bit.
I'm also thinking about doing another blog, for mainly family and friends in NZ to read, probably on Blogger.
Saving $$$ is not going well. But I want to lose a bit of weight before I go, so I went for a run yesterday. My legs are very sore now. I hope I can stay determined and actually reach my goal this time. I ran with Mum's iPod, and her songs are NOT good running songs.
ah well, time to do some flute practice for my exam on Thursday.
Hasta La Vista,
Anita
